Through intuitive scene displays, the atlas helps safety officers quickly locate environmental hazards such as falls from heights and object strikes. However, in actual on-site inspections, managers often focus on physical environments like scaffolding and edge openings, while easily overlooking the hidden blind spots in the wearing of personal protective equipment by workers.
Object strikes are a key risk highlighted in the atlas, and corresponding head protection is also a standard requirement on construction sites. However, during hazard inspections, merely confirming whether workers are wearing safety helmets is not sufficient. Safety officers need to further check whether the chin straps of the helmets are properly fastened, whether the helmet shells show signs of aging or cracks, and whether the products have exceeded their service life. In addition, hearing protection is the most easily overlooked aspect on construction sites. The atlas focuses more on mechanical injuries and electric shock hazards, but the hearing damage caused by high-noise equipment such as cutting machines and electric hammers is long-term and hidden. When inspecting high-noise work areas, EHS personnel should not only focus on the physical protection of equipment but also confirm whether noise-reducing earplugs or earmuffs are available on site, and guide workers to master the correct fit and use techniques to ensure that hearing protection equipment is effectively utilized.
Hazard identification should lead to action. Once PPE-related issues are identified, procurement and safety teams need to work together to correct them. Selection should consider not only protective performance but also comfort factors such as ventilation and weight, because equipment that fits well and is comfortable is more likely to be worn correctly and consistently.
A hazard-identification guide is useful only when its findings are turned into action on site. Companies should use it to review gaps in head, respiratory, and hearing protection and correct them through equipment selection, training, and supervision.
