In high-intensity work scenarios such as construction and warehousing logistics, traditional safety footwear often only provides basic toe protection and penetration resistance, but lacks feedback on workers“ actual foot pressure distribution and fatigue accumulation. With the development of wearable sensors and the Industrial Internet of Things, ”smart sole" technology is gradually moving to the forefront of application, offering new solutions for the health and safety of workers.
Smart soles embed a miniature pressure sensor array in the midsole layer and transmit data in real time to a receiving terminal via flexible circuits and RFID modules. Through algorithmic comparison, they can accurately identify arch stress, heel impact force, and imbalances in pressure distribution between the left and right feet. This data helps determine whether workers are in a state of excessive fatigue or whether there is a risk of potential injury caused by abnormal posture.
In a continuous wear test involving 100 construction workers, the SmartSole™ smart sole launched by AEGLE successfully identified 78% of potential fatigue-related injuries (such as plantar fasciitis and excessive knee joint load) in advance, providing strong support for on-site safety management.
Compared with traditional safety footwear, smart soles not only provide basic protective indicators such as P2-level impact resistance and penetration resistance, but also add data monitoring and remote transmission functions. Its composite midsole material maintains impact resistance while still accommodating the sensor module without appearing bulky. Measured data shows that the overall weight increase of the sole is less than 80g; battery life is 72 hours with fast charging support; and under a 15 kN impact test, the sole deformation remains ≤4 mm, meeting the requirements of national standard GB 21148:2025.
A large logistics company introduced 300 pairs of SmartSole™ safety footwear in its sorting workshop and established a supporting data backend. By analyzing pressure curves, the company found that workers in certain positions showed obvious force imbalance during continuous 8-hour handling. Based on the early warning recommendations, the company adjusted the worker rotation system and added cushioning pads at key positions. As a result, the injury rate dropped by 32%, and employee satisfaction improved significantly.
Industry analysts believe that the promotion of smart monitoring soles will drive PPE products from “passive protection” to “active early warning.” In the future, combined with AI algorithms and cloud platforms, safety footwear may even enable personalized health record management, providing early alerts for abnormal gait and prolonged high-load work, thereby reducing the risk of occupational diseases and work-related injuries.
